What Is Maintenance?
Website maintenance is similar to having your car serviced. Without it, the components may begin to fail. There are many factors as to why this can happen, but to avoid any costly unforeseen problems, it is advisable to keep your website maintained on a regular basis.
This is even more important if your website holds any secure data. I have outlined below some key aspects of my website maintenance package.
Why would I ever need something like that!?
Simply - to save time and money in the long term by having someone to take care of your asset ( website ). I can help with the following:
- Handling routine maintenance work on products that I have already created for you
- Being on call for emergency issues
- I will communicate with your hosting provider regarding email/server issues
- Fast turnaround for routine tasks - such as implementing new templates or interface elements
- Consulting on long-term strategy or planning for your company
- Handling repetitive work such as software updates for CMS, improving website performance or files clean up
Updates to content are critical to improving your Search Engine Optimisation. Keeping your website up-to-date is a simple and effective way to ensure you never look out-of-touch. It also keeps people, and search engines, returning to your site.
Whether you need to add new information about your business, update the latest news and events, or change up existing information such as prices and contact information. I can usually make changes to your site within 24 hours and save your time, so you don't have to deal with all that strange HTML and PHP.
Updating a CMS version may have implications to the look of your website, which could cause browser compatibility issues. Your current design theme may require improvements allowing plugins or modules to work correctly.
I can help to improve your website with numerous additional features such as;
Image galleries, custom forms, payment gateways, banner sliders, blog area, forums, calendars, events, news feeds, social integration, additional pages, mobile stylesheets, multiple languages, anti-spam, and much more.
Cars have bugs, your MS Windows and OS Mac have bugs. Guess what?! Your website is full of bugs too! Some could have been eliminated at the early stage when the website was first time released.
However, new browser features, devices such as mobile phones or smart watches being introduced to the market on daily basis. Therefore, your website needs to be scanned through and tested regularly to ensure nothing breaks and ruins your users experience.
Content back-up plan
Sites should have a backup plan that fits with their needs. A site with lots of content updates might want a database backup once a day at a minimum and a full backup weekly. Sites with fewer updates might not need such frequent backups, but they should still have regularly scheduled, full-site backups that are stored off-site.
There is nothing worse than finding out your website being shutdown with all your few month's worth of content such as blog posts or images being lost. I can offer a regular back-up plan both online and off-line to keep our files and business safe from unpredictable downtime.
Platform UpdatesYour website may have been created several years ago, but the design still suits your needs. With recent improvements to how websites are written, such as HTML5 and CSS3, your website may
be poorly ranked in web searches, have compatibility issues with certain browsers or be using outdated code that is open to security threats.
Whatever the system, I can upgrade an existing site to improve how search engines read the website content and improve performance. The CMS of my preference is Perch. It's effective option for creating a website which enables you to log in and edit web content yourself. What's more, it allows to convert any page or design into dynamic regions that you have an ultimate control of with no coding at all.
If you are currently running a CMS site such as Joomla, Wordpress or Drupal, you may not need the power hungry functionality and want to convert to a lighter, faster system such as Perch CMS. You may not even require a CMS and would like to downgrade to static HTML or PHP files as this would allow you to make use of page caching in order to speed up your website ten fold.
